How much does a carbon fiber wrap cost in Chicago?

Most carbon fiber work is accents: a hood, roof, mirror caps or spoiler in 3M 2080 carbon fiber texture, quoted per panel after we see the car. A full car in textured film is priced like any other color change wrap, so a sedan is $2,950 and cars start at $2,850. Textured film takes more care at edges and recesses, which is why accents get quoted on inspection.

Why does a color change wrap cost more on some cars than others?

Price follows surface area and labor. We take the wrappable square feet plus 6 percent waste, multiply by $13.21 per square foot (about $14 installed), apply a labor complexity tier and round to $50, with a $2,850 floor. That is why a sedan is $2,950, a Model Y $3,250, a Rivian R1S $4,100 and a Porsche or exotic $4,050. The color change factor is already built into those figures.

How much does a matte black wrap cost?

Matte black on a sedan is $2,950 installed, and cars start at $2,850. On Teslas it is $2,850 for a Model 3, $3,250 for a Model Y and $5,200 for a Cybertruck; a pickup is $3,500. Prices use 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison matte film and include prep, install and a 2-year workmanship warranty. Matte grey, white and metallic cost the same. See matte black wrap cost.

What is a color shift wrap, and what does it cost?

A color shift wrap uses a film whose color moves with the viewing angle, purple to green or black to red, for example. It is a specialty film, so we quote it per vehicle rather than from the list prices, because the roll costs more and the install takes longer around curves. Expect it to run above a standard color change, which starts at $2,850. More on color shift wraps.

Why is one car wrap quote so much cheaper than another?

The cheap quote usually skips something: calendered film instead of cast, no removal of handles and mirror caps, no door jambs, no post-heating of edges, no written warranty. Our $2,850 floor includes 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison cast color change film, design, install, a 2-year workmanship warranty and the 5-year material warranty on premium film. Ask any shop which of those a low price leaves out.

Can you wrap just the roof or hood as a color change accent?

Yes. A gloss black roof, a satin black hood or a carbon fiber texture hood are the most common accent jobs, and we also do mirrors and pillars. Accents are quoted per panel after we see the car, since a panoramic glass roof, a vented hood and a plain steel hood take different amounts of film and time. Send photos and your year, make and model for a number.

How much does a chrome wrap cost?

Chrome is quoted per vehicle, not from the list prices. Chrome film cannot be stretched like a standard color change film, it shows every flaw in the paint underneath, and edges and recesses take far longer, so it lands in our top labor tier, well above a $2,950 sedan color change. Manufacturers also rate chrome films for a shorter outdoor life. Details on chrome car wraps.

How much does a metallic car wrap cost in Chicago?

A metallic color change wrap is priced the same as any standard 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison color change film: sedans and passenger cars are $2,950, cars start at $2,850, a Tesla Model Y is $3,250 and a Rivian R1T is $3,950. Those are installed prices and include the metallic film, prep and a 2-year workmanship warranty. Metallic flake hides light swirls better than flat gloss black.

Does a satin or gloss finish cost more than matte?

No. Matte, satin, gloss and metallic films from the 3M 2080 and Avery Dennison color change lines are all priced the same at our shop: $2,950 for a sedan, $2,850 for a Model 3, $4,100 for a Rivian R1S. Price changes with the vehicle, not the sheen. The exceptions are specialty films such as chrome and color shift, which we quote per vehicle because the film and labor differ.

Can you wrap a Tesla, Rivian or Cybertruck, and what does it cost?

13

Can a Cybertruck be wrapped, and how much does it cost?

Yes, and ours is $5,200 installed. The Cybertruck's stainless panels are flat with hard creases, so there are few compound curves, but the large flat areas show any dust or flaw under the film, and the steel has to be stripped of fingerprints and oils before anything sticks. Matte and satin films are the common choices. Read Cybertruck wrap near Chicago.

A white Model Y to matte black is $3,250 installed, the same price as any color on a Model Y. Start with our wrap designer for printed graphics and liveries, or the visualizer to see solid colors on your exact model. Our two in-house designers turn a reference photo or sketch into a proof on your vehicle, with unlimited revisions until you approve, and design is included in the price. Cybertruck's flat panels suit geometric two-tone splits; on a Model 3 or Y a single satin color reads cleanest.

Yes. We trim around every camera, the ultrasonic sensor pucks on older cars and the radar area, so nothing is covered. Vinyl does not block ultrasonic or radar signals, and cameras get a clean cutout rather than film over the lens. Door handles, mirror caps and the charge port door are wrapped as separate pieces. Does wrapping a Tesla or any new car void the manufacturer's warranty?

No. A vinyl wrap or chrome delete does not void a factory warranty by itself. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act a manufacturer has to show that an aftermarket product caused the specific failure before denying a claim on it. Cast film sits on the clear coat and comes off without residue within its service life. Keep your install paperwork, and ask your dealer if a specific panel claim comes up.

Should I wrap my Tesla?

Wrap it if you want a color the factory does not offer, want the paint shielded from UV and light abrasion, or plan to sell and want the original color back. A Model 3 is $2,850 and a Model Y $3,250, the film comes off within its 5 to 7 year service life, and satin hides swirls better than gloss paint. Skip it if the clear coat is peeling.

What is a chrome delete, and what does it cost?

10

How much does a chrome delete cost?

A chrome delete is quoted per vehicle, because the price follows the number of trim pieces, not the size of the car. Window trim alone on a sedan is a small job; a full blackout adding grille, handles, mirror caps, badges and bumper trim on a BMW or F-150 is several times the work. Send photos of the trim and we return an itemized number within 24 hours.

At our shop at 4711 N Lamon Ave in Portage Park, the only location we run, with free pickup and delivery across Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Will and McHenry counties. We do window trim, grille, handles, mirror caps and badges in 3M 2080 satin or gloss black, and the same crew does full color changes, so a chrome delete can ride along with a wrap. What vinyl is best for a chrome delete?

Cast color change film, 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison, in satin or gloss black, installed in one piece per trim run and post-heated at the ends. Precut kits, tapes, sprays and dips are DIY products; kits rarely match trim edges exactly, and sprays chip at the edges and are hard to remove cleanly. Cast film conforms to a window surround, holds its edge and comes off in one piece.

What is a chrome delete?

A chrome delete covers the factory chrome trim with black or body-colored cast vinyl: window surrounds, grille frame, door handles, mirror caps, badges and lower trim. It is a wrap of the trim only, not the paint, so the car keeps its color and loses the brightwork. Done in 3M 2080 satin or gloss black, it is reversible and lasts the film's 5 to 7 year service life.

How long does a chrome delete last?

The same 5 to 7 year service life as a full wrap, because it is the same cast film, 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison color change, applied to trim instead of paint. The stress point is the thin window trim, where edges see wiper spray, ice and brush washes, so hand or touchless washing matters. Our 2-year workmanship warranty covers lifting or edge failure under normal use.

Can you black out the chrome and badges on a Tesla or Rivian?

Yes. On older Model 3 and Model Y builds the chrome window trim, door handles and mirror bases get satin or gloss black 3M 2080; newer builds already come with black trim. On a Rivian we black out the badges, window surrounds and lower trim, and it pairs with a satin wrap on an R1S at $4,100. Trim-only blackout is quoted per vehicle after we see the trim count.

How long does a chrome delete take?

A chrome delete is trim only, so bay time is a fraction of the 2 to 3 business days a full color change needs; we confirm the pickup time in your quote from the trim count. The adhesive cures over 24 to 72 hours, so you can drive right away but should keep the car out of car washes for the first week and off the pressure washer.

Does a chrome delete include the wheels or rims?

No. A chrome delete covers body trim: window surrounds, grille, handles, mirror caps, badges. Vinyl is a poor match for wheel faces because brake heat, brake dust and curb contact break it down fast, so we do not wrap wheels. Powder coating or paint is the right route for chrome wheels. We can wrap the plastic wheel arch trim or center caps if they are part of the look.

If my car already has a chrome delete, can you wrap the rest without redoing it?

Yes, if the existing trim film is sound: no lifting, cracking or fading. We wrap the body up to the trim edge and leave the blackout alone. If the old chrome delete is lifting at the window trim or faded, we strip it and redo the trim in 3M 2080 satin or gloss black, because new body film butting against failing trim film is where edges start to peel.

Also asked as: If my car is already chrome deleted, can they still wrap the rest or do they have to redo the chrome delete?

What is a color change wrap?

A color change wrap covers every painted panel with cast vinyl film, 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison color change, so the car reads as a new color without paint. Finishes include matte, satin, gloss, metallic, carbon fiber texture, color shift and chrome. The film shields the clear coat from UV and comes off within its 5 to 7 year service life. Cars start at $2,850. See color change wraps.

Which wrap color hides scratches and swirls best on a Model 3?

Satin or matte in a mid-tone: grey, silver or a satin metallic. Light and mid colors hide fine marks because there is less contrast with a scratch, and satin kills the reflections that reveal swirls. Gloss black and deep gloss colors show the most. On a Model 3 the hood and roof take the sun, so a film with a little metallic flake also hides light fading evenly.

Should I choose 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison color change film?

Pick by color, not brand. Both are cast color change films with the same 5 to 7 year service life and a 5-year material warranty on premium film. The catalogs differ, so a specific satin black, matte metallic or pearl may exist in only one line. We are an Avery Dennison certified installer and we also install 3M films; we hold no 3M credential. We do not install PPF from either brand.

What is carbon fiber vinyl, and is it real carbon fiber?

It is a textured cast vinyl film embossed with a woven pattern, not real carbon fiber. 3M 2080 carbon fiber texture is the common choice, in black and a few colors, gloss or matte. It adds no strength and saves no weight; it is purely a look, and at arm's length it reads like the real thing on hoods, roofs, mirrors and trim. More on carbon fiber wraps.

How long does a carbon fiber wrap last, and is it worth it?

Textured cast film like 3M 2080 carbon fiber carries the same 5 to 7 year service life as other color change films, though hoods and roofs take the most sun and show wear first. The 5D, 6D and 7D labels online are marketing grades for gloss depth, not a standard. It is worth it for an accent you would otherwise paint; a full car in texture shows every edge.

What is the difference between satin and matte vinyl?

Sheen. Matte film is flat and reflects almost nothing; satin has a low sheen that reads like a soft eggshell and shows the body lines more. Satin is easier to live with: it hides water spots and fingerprints better than matte and swirls better than gloss. Both are the same cast film family with the same 5 to 7 year service life and the same price. More on satin wraps.

What are the pros and cons of a color change wrap?

Pros: any color or finish without paint, factory paint shielded from UV and light abrasion, reversible within a 5 to 7 year service life, and a sedan costs $2,950 installed. Cons: jambs stay the original color unless added, edges and seams show up close, brush car washes are out, matte needs its own cleaner, and the film is a wear item. Peeling clear coat rules a car out.

Will satin black show swirl marks from winter washing?

Less than gloss black, but it is not immune. Satin diffuses light, so fine swirls that would jump out on gloss black mostly vanish, and what you get instead are shiny spots where the surface has been polished by abrasion. Those cannot be buffed out. On a daily driver through a Chicago winter, hand wash or touchless only, no brush tunnels, and rinse salt before it dries on the film.

Can a wrap match a specific factory paint color?

Close, rarely exact. Color change films come from fixed catalogs, 3M 2080 and Avery Dennison, so we match by holding swatches against your paint in daylight and picking the nearest. When no color change film matches, we can print a solid on Avery Dennison MPI 1105 to a Pantone reference, with a gloss overlaminate, which gives a gloss finish only. Send the paint code and we will shortlist films.

Can a gloss wrap look as good as paint?

From a few feet away, yes. Gloss cast film like 3M 2080 gloss has depth, and on a smooth panel most people cannot tell it from paint. Up close the tells are seams on large panels, relief cuts in deep recesses, and jambs in the old color unless you add them. Gloss black is the least forgiving; it shows swirls and prep like a mirror. See gloss vinyl wraps.

Also asked as: Should I paint instead of wrap because paint looks better and lasts longer? · can car wrap look like paint · does car wrap look like paint · vehicle wrap gloss black

Can you wrap a car that has factory matte paint?

Yes. Vinyl bonds to matte clear coat the same way it bonds to gloss, as long as the paint is clean and free of wax or ceramic coating, which we check. Factory matte paint is costly to repair, so owners often wrap it in gloss or satin to protect it and get the matte back when the film comes off within its 5 to 7 year service life.

Who does two tone wraps in Chicago, and how are they priced?

We do. The usual split is a gloss or satin black roof, pillars and mirrors over a body color. We quote a two tone as the full color change, $2,950 for a sedan or $3,250 for a Model Y, plus the accent panels, priced after we see where the color break falls. A clean break needs a body line or trim edge. See two tone wraps.

Can you wrap a car with a body kit or aftermarket parts?

Yes. Aftermarket bumpers, splitters, spoilers and widebody panels do not follow factory dimensions, so each piece is templated on the car, and that is quoted per job after we see it. The part has to be sealed first: raw fiberglass, bare primer and unpainted plastic will not hold cast vinyl, so they need paint or clear coat and about 90 days of cure before we wrap.

How long does a color change wrap last through Chicago winters?

A cast color change film, 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison, has a 5 to 7 year service life, and Chicago winters shorten it only when salt is left to sit on the film. That is a service life, not a warranty: we give a 2-year workmanship warranty and the premium film carries a 5-year material warranty. Satin, matte, gloss, Tesla or Rivian all fall in the same window.

Do you wrap the door jambs, and should I on a dark satin car?

Door jambs and the trunk opening are an add-on, not part of the standard color change. Whether to add them depends on contrast. A dark car going to satin black or grey barely shows its jambs when a door opens, so most owners skip them. White or silver going to dark satin shows a bright jamb every time, and that is when the add-on earns its cost.

How do I take care of a matte wrap through a salty Chicago winter?

Rinse road salt off the lower panels after every salted drive, before it dries on the film. Wash by hand or touchless with a matte-specific, pH-neutral soap, never a brush tunnel. No wax, no spray sealant that adds gloss, no polish; any of those leave shiny patches on matte. Keep pressure washers away from edges, and never put an ice scraper on wrapped panels. How long after getting my car wrapped can I wash it?

Wait a week. The adhesive cures over 24 to 72 hours, and edges and recesses keep settling after that, so pressure washing or a car wash in the first week can lift an edge that would otherwise hold for years. After the first week, hand wash or touchless only, keep pressure washer nozzles away from seams and edges, and use a matte-specific cleaner if you chose matte or satin.

Does a matte wrap need special soap?

Yes. Use a matte-specific or vinyl-safe pH-neutral soap. Ordinary car shampoos often carry gloss enhancers or wax that leave a sheen and blotches on matte and satin film, and those marks do not wash out. Skip spray waxes, quick detailers with shine and any polish. For bugs or bird droppings, soak with a wet cloth and lift them; do not scrub dry. The same rules apply to satin.

Also asked as: Does a matte wrap require special soap?

Will the wrap hide my car's original color completely?

On every wrapped panel, yes; color change film is opaque. The old color still shows anywhere film does not go: door jambs, under the hood, inside the trunk, the fuel door recess and bumper edges. That matters most on a big contrast, white to black, and door jambs are available as an add-on. Going light over dark, we check edges closely, since any gap shows the dark paint.

Also asked as: Will the wrap hide the underlying color of my car completely? · Will a wrap completely hide the original color?

Do I need to wash my car before I bring it in for a wrap?

A basic wash helps but is not required. Every car gets a full decontamination here before film goes on: wash, clay bar and an isopropyl alcohol wipe of every panel, because wax, sealant and road film stop adhesive from bonding. More important: strip any wax or ceramic coating beforehand, and tell us if the car has been repainted, since fresh paint needs about 90 days to cure.

Can I wrap a leased Tesla or BMW, and what happens at lease return?

Yes. Cast film protects the leased paint and comes off clean before turn-in, so the car goes back in its factory color. Plan the removal a few weeks ahead of the return date; we price removal at 40 percent of the wrap price. Check your lease for any clause on modifications and keep the registered color consistent with what the lessor expects. See can you wrap a leased car.

Is a wrap or a respray better for a 10 year old car with faded paint?

It depends on the clear coat, not the age. Dull, oxidized paint that is intact can be wrapped after a polish and clean, and the wrap hides the fade and protects what is left; a sedan is $2,950. Peeling or chalky clear coat cannot be wrapped, because film bonds to the clear and lifts it, so that car needs paint, or a respray of the failed panels, first.

Does a color change wrap hurt resale value?

Usually the opposite, because the factory paint under the film has been shielded from UV and light abrasion while you owned it. The risk is taste: a buyer who hates your satin purple will discount the car. The fix is removal. Cast film taken off within its 5 to 7 year service life leaves the original paint intact, so you sell in the factory color. Read resale value.

How much does PPF cost in Chicago, and do you install it?

We do not install paint protection film of any brand or finish. A PPF shop prices it by the panel. We do vinyl color change: 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison film in matte, satin, gloss, metallic or color shift, cars from $2,850, with UV and light abrasion protection and a 5 to 7 year service life. Should I get matte PPF or a matte vinyl wrap on a black car?

Matte PPF keeps the car black and adds rock chip protection; we do not install PPF of any brand, so that goes to a PPF shop. A matte vinyl wrap gives the same matte look at a lower price, $2,950 on a sedan or $2,850 on a Model 3, with UV protection but not chip protection, and in any color. See PPF versus wrap.

What is colored PPF, and does it last longer than a color change wrap?

Colored PPF is a urethane protection film tinted a color, so it changes the color and absorbs rock chips; makers rate it for a longer life than cast vinyl and it costs more. A vinyl color change in 3M 2080 or Avery Dennison film gives a 5 to 7 year service life, more finishes and a lower price, $2,850 on a Model 3. We install only vinyl, not PPF.

PPF or a wrap on a new Tesla: which should I choose?

Choose by goal. Clear PPF keeps the factory color and stops rock chips on the nose, hood and rockers; we do not install PPF, window tint or ceramic coating, so that is a PPF shop. A wrap changes the color, shields the paint from UV and light abrasion, and costs less: Model 3 $2,850, Model Y $3,250. Combining both is possible if the PPF edges are perfect.

Are PPF and tint shops good at color change wraps, or should I use a dedicated wrap shop?

Judge the shop by its color change work, not its sign. Ask to see color changes in the finish you want, ask who installs and their years on cast color change film, and ask whether handles and mirror caps come off or get wrapped around. Ask about the written warranty; ours is 2 years on workmanship. Our six installers do wraps only; PPF, tint and ceramic go elsewhere.
