How is a vehicle wrap priced?

What is the average cost of a vehicle wrap, and why is an average misleading?
On our list, full wraps run from $2,850 for a small car to $9,200 for a 26 foot box truck, with a cargo van at $4,200 in the middle. An average blends those into one number that fits nobody. Price follows wrappable square feet and complexity, so the useful question is what your vehicle measures. Trailers, food trucks and buses are quoted per project after we measure.
Also asked as: how much can a car wrap cost · What is the average cost of wrapping a van? · how much would a wrap cost · Is there a typical cost range for a wrap installationHow do you price a vehicle wrap?
We price by area. Wrappable square feet plus 6 percent waste, times $13.21 per square foot (about $14 installed), times a labor complexity tier, rounded to the nearest $50, with a $2,850 floor. That is how a cargo van lands at $4,200. Every price includes design, print, cast vinyl, lamination and installation. The wrap calculator runs the same math on your vehicle.
Also asked as: Anyone have any knowledge of pricing for vehicle wrapping? · vinyl wrap price · vinyl wrap price near chicago, il · how do car wraps costWhy do vehicle wraps cost so much?
A wrap is a custom printed product plus two to three bay days of skilled labor. The price covers a designer and a proof on your vehicle, in-house printing on HP Latex, Avery Dennison MPI 1105 cast vinyl with overlaminate, and installers who post-heat every edge and panel break. Our floor is $2,850 because even a small car takes the same prep, design and print steps.
Also asked as: why does car wrap cost so much · why do car wraps cost so much · how expensive is car wrap · how expensive is it to wrap a carWhat is the cheapest full wrap you do, and is there a minimum charge?
Our floor on any full wrap is $2,850, which is where a Tesla Model 3 lands and where cars start. Below that the square-foot math stops covering design, print, cast film, laminate and installer time, so we do not go under it. Need less? Lettering at 20 percent of the full wrap price or a partial at 55 percent is the honest way down, not thinner film.
Also asked as: cheapest vehicle wrap · Do you have any order minimums · cheapest car wraps · cheapest car wraps near meHow much does a 3M auto wrap cost?
We do not price by brand name. Quotes are built on wrappable square feet and complexity, $13.21 per square foot plus 6 percent waste, times a labor tier, and they name the film: Avery Dennison MPI 1105 is our primary print film, 3M IJ180-CV3 the alternative, each with overlaminate. On any 3M quote, ask which film: 3M alone can mean print film, color change film or just the laminate.
Also asked as: 3m auto wrap price near illinois · 3m auto wrap price near chicago, il · 3m auto wrap near me prices · 3m auto wrap price near meIs there a vehicle wrap cost calculator I can use before asking for a quote?
Yes. Our wrap calculator runs the same square-foot model we quote from (area plus 6 percent waste at $13.21 per square foot, times a complexity tier). Expect it to land within a tier of the real number; the quote firms it up. The itemized quote arrives within 24 hours once we have the vehicle year, make and model, the coverage you want and your artwork.
Also asked as: van wrap pricing calculator · vehicle wrap cost estimator · wrap cost estimator · car wrap cost estimateIs the price different if I am in Schaumburg, Naperville or another suburb?
No. One price list applies whether you are in the city or the suburbs, because every wrap is installed at our one shop in Portage Park and the square-foot model does not change with your address. What changes is logistics: free pickup and delivery covers Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Will and McHenry counties, so a Schaumburg or Naperville van costs the same $4,200 as one from down the street.
Also asked as: vinyl car wraps prices naperville · how much does a car wrap cost near schaumburg, il · full car wrap cost near schaumburg, il · car wrap cost near schaumburg, ilWhat factors determine the cost of a vehicle wrap?
Size, complexity, coverage, finish, old graphics and paint condition. Size is wrappable square feet ($4,200 for a cargo van); complexity is the labor tier set by rivets and curves; coverage is full, partial at 55 percent or lettering at 20 percent; a color change adds 15 percent; removing an old wrap is 40 percent of a full wrap; and peeling clear coat or rust must be fixed first.
Also asked as: What are the variables to consider in wrap pricing, or is a wrap just a wrap? · What factors affect the cost of my wrap · What factors determine the cost of a vehicle wrapWhat is a labor complexity tier, and why does it change the price?
The complexity tier is a multiplier on the square-foot base for vehicles that take more installer hours: rivets, corrugation, deep channels, compound bumpers, mirror caps and roof racks. The clearest example on our list is a 16 foot box truck: $5,300 with smooth sides, $6,000 with riveted sides. Same length, same film, more time heating film down over every rivet head and post-heating each edge.
Also asked as: wrap labor cost · vinyl wrap labor cost · car wrap labor costWhy does the price include 6 percent waste?
Film is printed larger than the panel it covers. Each panel needs bleed for overlaps at seams, enough material to wrap around edges and into panel breaks, and a trim margin, so a wrap always uses more square feet than the vehicle measures. We set that allowance at 6 percent and build it into the price, which is why $13.21 per square foot reads as about $14 installed.

How is a partial wrap priced compared to a full wrap?
A partial wrap is 55 percent of the full wrap price for the same vehicle. On a $4,200 cargo van that is $2,310. It covers the panels people see most, usually the rear doors and sides, and leaves the hood, roof and bumpers in body color, though which panels go in is your call. Same Avery Dennison cast film, same overlaminate, same 2-year workmanship warranty as a full wrap.
Also asked as: Can I wrap only the front-facing surfaces to reduce the cost? · how much does a partial wrap cost · What is the cost difference between a partial wrap and a full wrap? · how much do partial wraps costWhat is included in the price of a vehicle wrap?
Every price we quote includes design with unlimited revisions, a proof on your vehicle, in-house printing on HP Latex, Avery Dennison MPI 1105 cast vinyl with overlaminate, installation in our climate controlled bays, and a 2-year workmanship warranty. Free pickup and delivery covers Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, Will and McHenry counties. The one separate line is removing an old wrap, at 40 percent of the full wrap price.
Also asked as: What's included in the price · Are there any hidden fees · how much does it cost for a full vehicle wrap · truck wrap job costDoes a custom wrap design cost extra?
No. Design is built into every wrap price, including fully custom artwork. Two in-house designers work from your logo or from scratch, with unlimited revisions until you approve and Pantone matching to your brand colors. You see a proof on your exact vehicle before anything prints, and we keep the production files so a reprint or a second vehicle starts from the finished art.
Also asked as: Do you charge extra for design work, or is it included? · What is included with a logo design charge · how much does a custom wrap cost · how much does it cost for a custom car wrapIs the quoted price per vehicle or for the whole job?
Per vehicle, then totaled. Our itemized quote lists each vehicle with its own coverage and price, so a $4,200 cargo van reads as $4,200 on its line. When several vehicles share one contract, the quote shows the per-vehicle price after any fleet discount and the contract total underneath. If a line is unclear, ask before you sign rather than after the proof is approved.

What do you give up with a cheap vehicle wrap?
Usually one of five things: calendered film instead of cast, no overlaminate, outsourced print, no proof before printing, or no written warranty. Calendered film is stiffer, shrinks back out of channels and rivets, and in Chicago weather often fails within 12 to 18 months. Our prices start at $2,850 because cast vinyl, laminate and installer hours cost what they cost. Ask every shop to name film and laminate.
Also asked as: car wrap near me cheap · cheap car wrap shop chicago · cheap vehicle wraps near me · cheap vehicle wrapWhy do wrap quotes from different shops differ so much?
Quotes diverge on five things: film grade (cast or calendered), whether an overlaminate is included, how much of the vehicle is actually covered, in-house versus outsourced printing, and whether design and a proof are in the price. Compare quotes by square feet of coverage and named materials, not the bottom line. Our benchmark is $13.21 per wrappable square foot, about $14 installed with waste, before the complexity tier.
Also asked as: how much should a car wrap cost · Is this quote a good price for a full wrap in my area, or can anyone recommend a place? · we got quotes from three chicago fleet wrap shops that differ by 40 percent, what explains the gap and which should we trust · how much should car wrap costHow much does a good, professional wrap cost?
A properly done full wrap in cast vinyl starts at $2,850 for a small car and $4,200 for a cargo van, installed, with design, print, laminate and a 2-year workmanship warranty included. Good in price terms means the quote names the film (Avery Dennison MPI 1105 or 3M IJ180-CV3) and the overlaminate, includes a proof and puts the warranty in writing. Far below that, something is missing.

Do you offer financing or payment plans for a vehicle wrap?
We do not offer in-house financing. A single vehicle is paid on the deposit and balance terms in the quote. Larger fleet programs can be staged across billing cycles, so each group of vehicles is installed and invoiced in turn rather than all at once. Owners who want to spread the cost usually use their own bank line or business card.
Also asked as: Do you offer financing or payment plans for fleet wraps? · car wrap near me finance · vehicle wrap financing near me · vehicle wrap financingHow much is the deposit, and when is the balance due?
The deposit amount and the balance schedule are written into your itemized quote rather than fixed as one percentage, because a single car and a staged fleet program need different terms. We request the deposit when you approve the quote, and that is what books your install dates and material. Nothing prints until you approve the proof. Read the payment lines on the quote before you sign.
Also asked as: How much is the deposit and when is the balance due? · Do you require a depositI have a fixed budget. Can you work within it?
Usually, by changing coverage. If a $4,200 cargo van wrap is over the line, a partial at 55 percent ($2,310) or lettering at 20 percent gets the brand on the road, and the rest can be wrapped later from the same files. We will not hit a number by switching to calendered vinyl or skipping the overlaminate. Tell us the figure and we quote the coverage that fits.

Is a vehicle wrap a Section 179 asset or an advertising expense?
For most businesses a wrap is treated as an advertising expense under IRC section 162 (IRS Publication 535), generally deducted in the year it goes into service rather than depreciated as equipment. Section 179 is for depreciable property such as the van itself, not the graphics on it. Most wrap shops describe it the same way; your tax professional makes the final call. See Section 179 and wraps.
Also asked as: vehicle wrap section 179 · can i write off vehicle wraps under section 179 or is it an advertising expense · should a vehicle wrap be capitalizedDoes a vehicle wrap count as advertising for tax purposes in Illinois?
Generally yes. A wrap carrying your business name, services and phone number is advertising in the sense IRS Publication 535 uses under IRC section 162, the same category as a billboard invoice or a radio buy. How it lands on the Illinois return is a question for your preparer. Keep the invoice and photos.
Also asked as: does a vehicle wrap count as advertising for tax purposes in illinois · is a wrapped work truck considered advertising for tax purposesHow do I document a vehicle wrap for my taxes?
Keep four things: the itemized invoice showing design, print, material and installation, proof of payment, the registration or lease showing the vehicle is used in the business, and dated photos of the finished wrap. Note the install date, since the wrap is generally expensed as advertising in the year it goes into service (IRS Publication 535, IRC section 162). Give the folder to your tax professional.
If the wrap is installed in December, can I deduct it this year?
Generally the deduction follows the year the wrap goes into service, meaning installed and on the road, not the year you got the quote or paid the deposit. A wrap finished in December is normally an advertising expense on that year's return (IRS Publication 535, IRC section 162). Your invoice carries the install date, so keep it with the payment record and confirm the timing with your tax professional.
Does insurance cover a wrap?

Does auto insurance cover a vehicle wrap after an accident?
Usually only if the wrap was added to the policy. A standard auto policy covers the vehicle, and an undisclosed wrap is often left out of the settlement, so ask your insurer to list its value, typically as a custom equipment endorsement. Keep the invoice as proof of value. When a panel is damaged we reprint it from your production files, which keeps the claim small.
Also asked as: Will my auto insurance cover the cost of the wrap if I'm in an accident? · are vehicle wraps covered by insuranceDo I need to tell my insurance company I wrapped my vehicle?
Yes, tell your insurer the vehicle is wrapped and what the wrap cost, and ask for an endorsement covering that value. On a business vehicle that is the commercial auto policy; on a personal car it is your own policy. A $4,200 wrap changes the replacement value, and a claim is simpler when the value is already on file. Ask your insurer what they require.

What does the 2-year workmanship warranty cover?
Installation defects for two years from the install date: lifting, peeling, bubbling, edge failure and adhesion problems under normal use, subject to the written terms. The typical claim is a lifted edge at a door handle or mirror cap, usually fixed with a post-heat and roll-down. It is our warranty on our work, separate from the 5-year material warranty on the film, and it is included in every price.
Also asked as: Should I get a written warranty from the wrap shop that flaws will be fixed? · Is there a warranty on the material and the installation? · what warranty should a fleet wrap come with · Do you warranty your workWhat does the 5-year material warranty cover?
The film manufacturer's warranty on the premium cast vinyl, Avery Dennison MPI 1105 or 3M IJ180-CV3, against qualifying material defects such as film that fades, cracks or delaminates on its own. It does not cover installation faults, which fall under our 2-year workmanship warranty. Ask for the film name and its warranty document before signing. Expected service life, 5 to 7 years, is not a warranty.
Also asked as: What is the warranty for 3M Wrap Film · Should vehicle owners care about the manufacturer warranties on the film and why or why not · Would the shop have a copy of the film warranty on hand, or should vehicle owners ask for it · 3m vehicle wrap warrantyWhat does neither wrap warranty cover?
Damage rather than defects: collision and road debris, brush car washes that catch an edge, pressure washing aimed at seams, film applied over paint or clear coat already failing, rust or a fresh respray under the film, and normal wear across the 5 to 7 year service life. Those are repairs, not claims. Any panel can be reprinted from your files without redoing the rest of the vehicle.
How do I make a warranty claim on a wrap?
Call (312) 597-1286 or email roy@chicagofleetwraps.com with the vehicle, the install date and two photos, one close up and one from a few feet back. You get an initial response within 2 business hours. A lifted edge is usually reheated and rolled down in minutes; a panel that must come off is reprinted from your files and replaced in a bay. Full terms are on the warranty page.
Does the wrap warranty transfer if I sell the vehicle?
The written terms decide. Our workmanship warranty is issued to the customer who bought the wrap, so ask us before the sale whether it carries to the new owner on that vehicle. The 5-year material warranty follows the manufacturer's terms. Either way the new owner can have a panel reprinted from the production files we keep, since the file, not the warranty, is what makes a matching repair possible.
Does going through a car wash void the wrap warranty?
A hand wash or a touchless wash does not affect coverage. Damage from a brush tunnel, or from a pressure washer held close to seams and edges, is wear rather than an installation defect, so it falls outside the 2-year workmanship warranty. Wait a week after install before any wash; the adhesive cures over 24 to 72 hours. Matte film needs a matte-specific cleaner and no wax.
Are wraps worth the money?
5
Is wrapping a personal car worth the money?
Yes if the paint is sound. A color change wrap from $2,850 changes the look without touching factory paint, protects that paint from UV and light abrasion, and comes off at resale or lease return, which a respray cannot offer. Peeling clear coat or rust underneath makes it a bad buy, because film needs a sound surface. Expect 5 to 7 years of service life from cast film.
Also asked as: are car wraps worth it · is wrapping a car worth it · is car wraps worth it · is car wrap worth itIs a vehicle wrap worth it for a small business?
Usually yes: you pay once and the wrap works for its 5 to 7 year service life with no monthly bill. A $4,200 cargo van wrap spread across that span is roughly $50 to $70 a month, and it is generally deductible as an advertising expense (IRS Publication 535, IRC section 162). The vehicle already goes to every job; the wrap makes the trips count.
Also asked as: Is a £2,000 wrap too big an outlay for a one-man business? · are vehicle wraps worth it · are wraps worth it · is a vehicle wrap worth it for a small business in ChicagoDoes vehicle wrap advertising actually work?
People notice wrapped vehicles. In the Nielsen 2019 out-of-home study, 64 percent of respondents had noticed a wrapped vehicle ad in the past month and 44 percent in the past week. Results depend on how readable the name and phone number are and where the vehicle parks overnight. Exposure varies by route, so we do not publish one impressions number for every van.
Also asked as: does vehicle wrap advertising work · vehicle wrap advertising · car wraps for advertising · vehicle wrap for advertisingHow do I measure the ROI of a vehicle wrap?
Track it yourself; no shop can honestly hand you a return percentage. Put a dedicated phone number or landing page on the vehicle, ask new callers how they found you, and log those jobs against the one-time price. Exposure varies by route; the widely cited 30,000 to 70,000 per day range traces to preliminary testing in a 2003 ARD Ventures paper whose own 24-hour example totals 15,250.
Also asked as: Does anyone actually track how many calls come from their vehicle wrap? · What is the ROI for a vehicle wrap in a city environment? · roi of vehicle wrapsCan I get paid to put advertising on my car, and is it legitimate?
Be careful. Offers that mail you a check to wrap your car for a brand are a common scam the Federal Trade Commission has warned about: the check bounces after you forward part of it to a supposed installer. Legitimate vehicle advertising runs the other way, with a business paying to wrap its own vehicles. We wrap vehicles for their owners and do not run a paid-driver program.

How does a vehicle wrap compare with a billboard on cost?
A wrap is paid once and works for its 5 to 7 year service life; a billboard bills monthly for as long as you hold the face. A billboard buys one sightline in one direction of travel, while a wrapped van covers your whole service area and sits on the job site where neighbors see it. See wraps versus billboards for the full comparison.
Also asked as: truck wrap for advertisingHow does a vehicle wrap compare with radio and social media ads on cost?
Radio and social ads are rented reach: you pay every month, a radio spot is gone in 30 seconds, and a social campaign needs fresh creative and budget to keep running. A wrap is bought once, runs for its 5 to 7 year service life, and is seen on the streets where you already work. Many businesses run both; the wrap is the channel that never sends an invoice.
Also asked as: van wrap advertisingWhat does a wrap cost over its life?
3
What does a vehicle wrap cost over its full life?
Mostly the purchase price. A $4,200 cargo van wrap carries no monthly fee, and upkeep is a hand wash or touchless wash, a rinse after salt days and no wax on matte film. Budget for an occasional panel reprint after a collision, a repair rather than a rewrap, and for removal at 40 percent of the full wrap price when the 5 to 7 year service life ends.
Also asked as: how long does car wrap cost · how long do vehicle wraps cost · how long does a car wrap cost · how long does wrap costDoes a wrap make sense if the vehicle only has a few years left?
Match the spend to the years. A full wrap is paid once against a 5 to 7 year service life, so on a van with two or three years left a partial at 55 percent or lettering at 20 percent is the better buy. At sale the wrap comes off clean over protected paint. It does not move to the next vehicle, though your files do.
Also asked as: Does a wrap only make sense if the vehicle has at least five more years of useful life? How much should I budget to rewrap a vehicle that already has a wrap?
Plan on removal plus a new wrap. Removal runs 40 percent of the wrap price, about $1,680 on a $4,200 cargo van; the new wrap is then $4,200. Schedule it inside the 5 to 7 year service life while the cast film still releases clean; film left years past that can leave residue and costs more labor to strip. Your design files are already on hand.
