What It Is

CHANGE EVERYTHING.
DAMAGE NOTHING.

A color change wrap is a full-vehicle vinyl film installation that replaces the visual appearance of your factory paint — without touching a single panel. We cover every inch: roof, hood, doors, bumpers, mirrors, pillars. The result looks better than most paint jobs and costs 60% less.

Unlike paint, it's reversible. Peel it off in 5 years, and your factory paint is in the same condition it was on the day we installed. That preserves resale value. No paint booth. No cure time. No permanent commitment.

Chicago Fleet Wraps uses only premium cast vinyl — Avery Dennison MPI 1105 and 3M IJ180-CV3. These films are rated 5–7 years outdoor. They conform to curves, door handles, and recessed channels without lifting or bubbling. We don't touch calendered vinyl — it shrinks, lifts, and fails within 18 months.

EVERY FINISH. EVERY COLOR.

MATTE
MATTE FINISH

The most popular choice in Chicago. Flat, non-reflective surface that reads as aggressive and premium — especially matte black, matte gray, and matte military green. Hides minor surface imperfections better than gloss. Popular on trucks, muscle cars, and executive SUVs.

Matte Black Matte Gray Matte White 60+ Colors
SATIN
SATIN FINISH

The sweet spot between matte and gloss. Satin has a soft sheen that looks factory-premium in any light. Satin black is the most universally flattering finish on any vehicle body style. Low glare, easy to maintain, and visually striking at any distance.

Satin Black Satin Silver Satin Blue 40+ Colors
GLOSS
GLOSS FINISH

High-shine, mirror-like finish that rivals a fresh factory paint job. Gloss wraps are the go-to for color changes where you want maximum visual impact — sports cars, luxury vehicles, and show builds. Glossy finishes intensify every color, making reds redder and blues deeper.

Gloss Red Gloss Black Pearl White 80+ Colors
SHIFT
COLOR-SHIFT / CHAMELEON

Multi-tone vinyl that changes color based on viewing angle and light conditions. In direct sun it reads as one color; in shade it shifts to another. The most dramatic finish available. Popular on personal vehicles and show builds where attention is the entire point.

Purple/Gold Blue/Green Red/Black 20+ Options
METAL
METALLIC & BRUSHED

Metallic finishes deliver a deep, flake-filled shimmer that mimics factory metallic paint at a fraction of the cost. Brushed metal wraps replicate the appearance of machined aluminum or steel — popular on trucks, performance vehicles, and anything that needs to project raw mechanical authority.

Metallic Silver Brushed Steel Rose Gold
CHROME
DELETE
CHROME DELETE

Eliminate the factory chrome on window trims, door handles, grille surrounds, mirror caps, and badges. Replace with matte black, gloss black, satin, or body-matching color. Chrome delete is the single highest-impact detail modification you can do to a vehicle — it tightens the aesthetic and adds 10 years of style instantly.

The Comparison

COLOR CHANGE WRAP VS. PAINT JOB

Factor Color Change Wrap Full Repaint
Cost (full vehicle)$2,200–$5,500$4,000–$15,000+

Lifespan5–7 years (cast vinyl)5–10 years (quality-dependent)

Bottom line: For most vehicles in Chicago, a professional color change wrap delivers better value than a comparable quality repaint. The only scenario where paint wins is if you want a completely custom color mixed to a specific formula — and even then, you're sacrificing reversibility and spending twice as much.

How It Works

THE INSTALL PROCESS

01
CONSULTATION

Tell us your vehicle, your finish, and your timeline. We'll confirm availability and give you an exact quote — no range estimates. Same-day response.

02
VEHICLE PREP

Full decontamination wash, clay bar treatment, and panel inspection. Existing surface contaminants, wax, and silicone are removed. This step determines installation quality — we don't skip it.

03
INSTALL

Climate-controlled bay at 70–75°F. Vinyl is precision-cut and applied panel by panel. Recessed edges, door jambs, and complex curves are wrapped — not trimmed. Seams are minimized and hidden.

04
QUALITY CHECK

Post-install heat treatment seals edges and activates the adhesive. Full visual inspection in multiple lighting conditions. No lift edges, no bubbles, no visible seams in primary view panels.

05
DELIVERY

Pickup or we return the vehicle to you. Care instructions provided. 2-year workmanship warranty starts on delivery day. Any issues within that window are our responsibility — no questions asked.

WHY CHICAGO FLEET WRAPS?

CAST VINYL ONLY

We use only Avery Dennison MPI 1105 and 3M IJ180-CV3 — both premium cast films rated 5–7 years. We do not use calendered vinyl. Period. This is the single most important decision in a color change wrap.

CLIMATE-CONTROLLED BAY

Chicago winters destroy vinyl installations done in cold conditions. Our shop is temperature-regulated at 70–75°F year-round. That's not a perk — it's a requirement for adhesion quality and long-term durability.

CERTIFIED INSTALLERS

3M and Avery Dennison certified. Not self-certified — manufacturer certified. 24 years in Chicago. Our installers have wrapped everything from Rivians to 40-foot trailers.

2-YEAR WARRANTY

2-year workmanship warranty on every install. Lift edges, peeling, or application failures within that window are fixed at no charge. We back what we build.

YOU OWN THE FILES

Design files, cut templates, and production artwork are yours permanently. If you need a replacement panel in 3 years, we're not starting from scratch — and neither are you.

9,400+ VEHICLES

We've wrapped more vehicles in Chicago than any other installer. That's not marketing — it's the result of 24 years, 2,800+ active fleet accounts, and 600+ Rivian installations. We know what we're doing.

After the Install

HOW TO MAKE IT LAST 7 YEARS

A color change wrap on cast vinyl is durable — but it's not maintenance-free. The difference between a wrap that looks sharp at year 6 and one that starts failing at year 3 comes down to how it's washed and stored.

HAND WASH ONLY

Touchless or hand wash only. Brush car washes abrade the surface and lift edges over time.

KEEP PRESSURE BELOW 1,200 PSI

High-pressure washers at close range lift edges at seams. Stay at least 18 inches from the surface.

VINYL-SAFE PRODUCTS ONLY

No wax on matte or satin finishes — it creates shiny spots. Use 3M Car Wash Soap or a vinyl-specific product.

INDOOR STORAGE EXTENDS LIFE

UV exposure and freeze-thaw cycles are the primary lifespan reducers. Garage storage can add 1–2 years to a wrap's life in Chicago's climate.

CATCH LIFT EDGES EARLY

If an edge starts lifting, address it immediately. A minor re-tuck is a 5-minute fix. Ignored, it becomes a peeled panel in two weeks.

CHICAGO-SPECIFIC CONSIDERATIONS

Chicago's climate is one of the harshest in the country for vehicle wraps. Here's what that means for your install:

  • Road salt: Rinse the vehicle weekly in winter. Salt accelerates edge lift.
  • Temperature cycling: Cast vinyl handles Chicago winters — calendered does not.
  • UV in summer: Clear coat or sacrificial film over high-sun panels extends color life.
  • Parking: Avoid parking on pavement that reflects heat onto lower body panels.

Questions

FREQUENTLY ASKED

How much does a color change wrap cost in Chicago? +
Color change wraps at Chicago Fleet Wraps start at $2,200 for cars and go up to $5,500 for full-size trucks and large SUVs. Cargo vans start at $3,250. Chrome delete services start at $350 for basic trim packages. All prices include premium cast vinyl (Avery Dennison or 3M), design consultation, professional installation, and a 2-year workmanship warranty. Use our price calculator for an instant estimate.
How long does a color change wrap installation take? +
Most color change wraps are completed in 2–4 business days. Sedans and coupes typically take 2 days. Full-size SUVs, trucks, and complex color-shift installs may take 3–5 days. Same-week scheduling is available for most vehicles. Drop off Monday, pick up Thursday or Friday.
Will the wrap damage my paint? +
No — and with cast vinyl it actually protects your paint. Cast vinyl film acts as a sacrificial barrier against UV degradation, rock chips, minor abrasion, and environmental contaminants. When removed by a professional (which we do for free during reinstalls), the factory paint underneath is in better condition than if it had been left exposed. The only risk of paint damage occurs when cheap calendered vinyl or improper removal techniques are used. We use neither.
How long does a color change wrap last? +
With cast vinyl — Avery Dennison MPI 1105 or 3M IJ180-CV3 — you can expect 5–7 years of outdoor performance. In Chicago's climate with proper care (hand wash, indoor storage where possible, salt rinses in winter), many of our installs reach 6–7 years looking sharp. Calendered vinyl degrades in 18–24 months. We don't use it.
Is matte black or satin black better? +
Both are excellent. Matte black is flat with zero reflectivity — it reads as raw and aggressive. Satin black has a soft sheen that shifts slightly in different light — it reads as refined and premium. Satin is easier to maintain because fingerprints and water spots are less visible. Matte shows imperfections and contact marks more clearly. For daily drivers, satin black is usually the better choice. For show builds and statement vehicles, matte tends to photograph better.
Can I wrap a leased vehicle? +
Yes. A professionally installed and removed color change wrap leaves the factory paint in the same condition it was before the wrap. This is one of the primary reasons color change wraps are popular with leased vehicles — you can transform the car for the duration of the lease and have it removed before turn-in. Check your lease agreement for any restrictions, but the wrap itself creates no paint damage when removed correctly.
Do you wrap the entire vehicle or just the body panels? +
A full color change wrap covers all exterior painted surfaces: hood, roof, doors, fenders, trunk/tailgate, bumpers, mirrors, pillars, and roof rails. We also wrap into door jambs for a clean finish. Windows, lights, and glass are not wrapped. Chrome trim and badging can be wrapped separately as a chrome delete package. We also offer partial color change — two-tone vehicles, accent panels, hood wraps only — if you want to transform specific areas without doing the full vehicle.

The Decision

HOW TO CHOOSE YOUR COLOR & FINISH

Most people walk in knowing their vehicle and walk out knowing their color — but the finish type is where the real decision happens. Here's what years of installs have taught us about what works, what doesn't, and what makes people stop in a parking lot.

BY VEHICLE TYPE

SPORTS CARS & MUSCLE

Gloss or color-shift. Sports cars are designed to be seen, and gloss finishes amplify every bodyline. Color-shift adds drama on curves. Avoid matte on vehicles with complex body sculpting — it softens the visual impact of lines that were designed to reflect light.

TRUCKS & PICKUPS

Matte black or matte military finishes dominate truck wraps in Chicago. The flat surface texture matches the utilitarian attitude of the vehicle. Satin black is the alternative when the owner wants the truck to look premium rather than tactical. Avoid color-shift on trucks — it reads as out of context.

SUVS & CROSSOVERS

Satin black or satin gray are the most versatile SUV choices — they look at home in a suburban driveway and in downtown Chicago. Gloss white or gloss pearl give an upscale look on luxury SUVs. Metallics work well on larger SUV bodies where the flake has room to catch light.

LUXURY & EXECUTIVE VEHICLES

Satin finishes pair best with luxury vehicles — they read as intentional and premium without the showmanship of gloss. Satin black on a BMW, Mercedes, or Cadillac looks like a factory option that wasn't available. Always add chrome delete on luxury vehicles — it completes the transformation.

ELECTRIC VEHICLES

Matte finishes are the dominant choice for EVs in Chicago — Tesla, Rivian, Polestar. The understated, non-reflective surface matches the quiet performance character of electric vehicles. We've done 600+ Rivian installations alone. Satin white on white-bodied EVs is also extremely popular for a clean, factory-upgrade appearance.

BY LIFESTYLE & USE

DAILY DRIVER

Satin or gloss — both hold up better to daily contact than matte. Matte shows fingerprints, minor surface marks, and dust more visibly. For a vehicle that gets used hard every day, satin is the practical choice: it still looks sharp but hides daily wear much better.

WEEKEND / SHOW USE

Matte or color-shift. Show vehicles are detailed before each appearance — so matte's higher maintenance isn't a factor. These finishes photograph best and generate the most reaction in person. Color-shift wraps are consistently the most photographed and shared on social media.

BUSINESS / FLEET BRANDING

Solid gloss colors — especially white, black, red, or brand-matched colors. Fleet vehicles need to look consistent across a 5–10 year lifespan and across multiple units. Solid gloss is the most durable, most reproducible, and most professional-looking option for business fleets.

LEASED VEHICLE

Any finish works on a leased vehicle — the wrap protects the factory paint during the lease term and is removed at turn-in. Many lease customers choose bolder finishes they wouldn't commit to in paint, knowing the transformation is temporary. The factory finish underneath is often in better condition after the wrap is removed.

RIDESHARE / GIGS

Gloss black or deep gloss colors make rideshare vehicles look executive-class at a fraction of the cost. Multiple drivers and constant use means you want a finish that wipes clean easily — gloss is the right choice. Some rideshare drivers also add subtle commercial branding alongside their color change.

Not Just Full Wraps

PARTIAL & ACCENT COLOR CHANGES

A full color change isn't always the goal. Some of the most dramatic transformations we do are partial — two-tone combinations, accent panels, or roof wraps that work with the factory color rather than replacing it entirely.

ROOF WRAPS

One of the highest visual impact, lowest cost modifications available. Wrapping just the roof in matte or gloss black on a white or silver vehicle creates a two-tone contrast that looks like a factory sports package. Takes 4–6 hours. Starting at $400.

From $400
HOOD WRAPS

A matte black hood on a gloss white or silver vehicle is one of the most popular accent wraps we do. It suggests performance without going full wrap. Can be combined with roof wrap for a complete racing-inspired two-tone. Starting at $350.

From $350
MIRROR CAPS

Mirror cap wraps are one of the fastest and most cost-effective ways to change a vehicle's personality. Gloss black or carbon fiber mirror caps on any color vehicle — takes 1–2 hours. Works on any vehicle. Starting at $150 per pair.

From $150
PILLAR WRAPS

A-pillars, B-pillars, and C-pillars in matte black create a floating roof effect — the greenhouse appears to disconnect from the body. This is a classic luxury-brand styling cue that's straightforward to execute in vinyl. Starting at $250.

From $250
TRUNK & LOWER ACCENT

Lower body accent wraps — rockers, lower fascia, rear diffusers — in gloss or matte black add an aggressive stance line without full-vehicle commitment. Popular on trucks and SUVs as a skid plate and rocker accent combination. Starting at $500.

From $500
TWO-TONE FULL WRAP

Two different colors or finishes on the same full wrap — upper body one color, lower body another, with a defined graphic split. More complex to install but delivers a completely custom look. Starting at $3,200 for most cars.

From $3,200

The Technical Side

CAST VINYL VS. CALENDERED: WHY IT MATTERS FOR COLOR CHANGE WRAPS

The single most important material decision in a color change wrap is the type of vinyl film. There are two: cast vinyl and calendered vinyl. The difference between them determines whether your wrap looks sharp at year 5 or starts failing at year 18 months.

Cast vinyl is manufactured by casting liquid PVC onto a release liner and curing it in a controlled environment. The result is a dimensionally stable film with internal memory that allows it to conform to complex curves, recesses, and riveted surfaces without lifting or shrinking. Cast vinyl is rated 5–7 years outdoor. It's what Avery Dennison MPI 1105 and 3M IJ180-CV3 are.

Calendered vinyl is manufactured by rolling PVC through a series of heated rollers under high pressure — a process that introduces internal stress into the film. When calendered vinyl is installed on a complex curved surface and exposed to Chicago's freeze-thaw temperature cycles, it attempts to return to its original flat shape. The result is shrinkage, lifting, bubbling, and seam separation within 18–24 months.

Calendered vinyl costs 30–40% less than cast. Shops that use it either don't know the difference or are cutting margins. We use only cast vinyl — Avery Dennison and 3M, both manufacturer-certified. There's no version of our work that involves calendered material.

WHAT CHICAGO DRIVERS SAY

"Got my black-on-black Tahoe wrapped in satin black with chrome delete. People constantly ask if it's a new truck. The transformation was immediate — I dropped it off Thursday and picked up a completely different vehicle Monday. Roy's crew knows what they're doing."

"Had them wrap my Rivian R1T in matte military green. These guys have done hundreds of Rivians — it showed. Edges were wrapped into every panel seam. Two years in, it still looks like day one. Worth every dollar."

★★★★★

"I was skeptical about wrapping my leased BMW instead of painting it. The team explained the whole process — why cast vinyl is safe on leased cars, what to expect at removal. Did a satin black with blacked-out badges and it looked better than any paint job I could have gotten for that price."
