Semi truck and trailer wrap for Stark Excavating by Chicago Fleet Wraps

Semi Trailer Wraps Chicago: 53 Ft Trailer Graphics

A 53 ft dry van carries roughly 475 square feet of printable vinyl per side, over 1,000 square feet counting both sides and the rear doors. It is the largest advertising surface most companies will ever own.

The Math on a 53 Ft Trailer

A standard 53 ft dry van runs about 52 feet 8 inches long with a side wall close to 9 feet tall. That is roughly 475 square feet of printable surface per side, and with both sides plus the rear doors a full wrap crosses 1,000 square feet of vinyl on a single trailer. Nothing else in your marketing budget puts a graphic that large on the Kennedy, the Tri-State, and I-80 every day it runs.

CFW prints trailer graphics on HP Latex media rated for highway abrasion and installs over rivets, corrugations, and logistic posts. Riveted and corrugated trailers take more time and more material than smooth sided vans, which is why we quote from photos of your actual equipment instead of a generic sheet.

We have produced and installed semi and trailer graphics for regional fleets including Stark Excavating, whose tractor and trailer work is pictured on this page.

Rivets, Corrugation, and Why Trailer Installs Are a Specialty

A trailer wall is not a flat panel. Exterior post trailers carry vertical rivet lines every 16 inches, and sheet and post walls flex in the wind at 70 mph. Vinyl that is not worked into every rivet head with heat lifts within months. Our installers set each rivet individually, which is slower and is also the difference between a wrap that survives 5 years of interstate miles and one that peels at the first hard winter.

For fleets that swap graphics seasonally or by contract, we also produce banner style trailer signage and partial wraps that keep the cost of change low while the trailer keeps working.

DOT Conspicuity Stays Visible

Federal rule 49 CFR 393.11 requires retroreflective conspicuity treatment on trailers 80 inches or wider with a GVWR over 10,001 pounds: the red and white DOT-C2 pattern along the lower sides and rear, plus white markings on the upper rear corners. A wrap never covers or replaces that tape. We plan artwork around the conspicuity zones and can replace aged DOT-C2 tape during the install so the trailer leaves compliant and looking new at the same time.

Semi Trailer Wrap Questions

How much vinyl does a 53 ft trailer wrap use?

A 53 ft dry van carries roughly 475 square feet of printable surface per side. A full wrap covering both sides and the rear doors crosses 1,000 square feet of vinyl, which is why trailer wraps are quoted from photos of the specific trailer rather than a flat rate.

Can you wrap over rivets and corrugated trailer walls?

Yes. Exterior post and riveted trailers are a specialty install: each rivet head is set individually with heat so the vinyl bonds instead of tenting. Riveted walls take more time and material than smooth walls, and the quote reflects the actual construction of your trailer.

Does a wrap affect DOT conspicuity tape requirements?

No, because we design around them. 49 CFR 393.11 requires the red and white DOT-C2 retroreflective pattern on the lower sides and rear of most trailers. Artwork is planned so conspicuity zones stay clear, and we can install fresh DOT-C2 tape during the wrap.

How long does a semi trailer wrap last?

Premium cast vinyl on a highway trailer is typically warrantied for 5 years or more of outdoor exposure. Wash schedule, road salt, and how the trailer is stored all move the real number, and we spec laminate accordingly.

Do you wrap reefers and specialty trailers?

Yes. Refrigerated trailers, curtainsides, tankers with printable surfaces, and drop decks with fairings all take graphics. Reefer walls are often smoother than dry vans and wrap beautifully.

Can you wrap just the rear doors?

Yes. Rear doors are the highest value partial on a trailer because they face traffic in every lane behind the truck. Many fleets start with doors plus a logo panel per side and expand later.
